Prompt

Straightforward beheading. A macro image capturing the precise moment a frisbee slices through the perfectly vertical stem of a flower. The flower, a tulip, is standing upright, and the frisbee is perfectly horizontal, slicing through the stem. The background is blurred to emphasize the action. The image should only show the tulip and the frisbee.

Revised prompt

A close-up image capturing the exact moment when a spinning frisbee, perfectly horizontal, intersects the solid vertical stem of a tulip flower. The tulip is upright, its colourful petals appearing vibrant against the frisbee's surface. The stem is cleanly divided in the middle from the frisbee's action. The entire background is softly blurred out, highlighting only the main objects: the tulip and the frisbee, and emphasizing the dynamic action taking place.

Notes

  • ChatGPT had over 20 attempts to produce the correct image.
  • Eventually it decided the easiest thing to do was to pretend there was a network error.
  • Bing, even when given the revised prompts produced by ChatGPT and my AI tool, got it wrong 8 out of 8 times.
  • And my AI tool had two disasters before producing the image I've chosen for its simple beauty and symmetrical balance.
  • There was nothing straightforward in this.

Here are some of ChatGPT's attempts.

After each of ChatGPT's attempts I clicked on the Bad Response button and told it what was wrong.

It often replied with

I apologize for the confusion and frustration. Let's correct this with precise instructions:

Not satisfied with the frisbee smashing into the flower - I wanted a beheading - I updated my prompt

A macro image capturing the precise moment a frisbee travels left to right, slicing through the vertical stem of a tulip 2cm below the head of the flower. The flower's stem is perfectly vertical. The background is blurred to emphasize the action. No visible arms, hands, or people, just the flower and the frisbee in motion.

It repeated what I'd asked it. But the frisbee had turned into a dart.

what on earth is happening in this picture. You've pierced the tulip with a frisbee dart travelling in the wrong direction. Can't you follow simple instructions.

The next version was worse, not better. In response to

I hope this meets your expectations. If there are any further adjustments or additional details you need, please let me know.

I replied

No it does not. I'm going to publish this conversation as an example of how difficult it can be to get you to produce the image requested.

After the next attempt I told it

you have no idea how annoying you can be with your own ineptitude

and after it failed again I wrote

that's 17 times you've failed to produce the image I want.

It replied

I'm truly sorry for the repeated mistakes and frustration. I want to make this right. Let’s go through the details one last time to ensure we are perfectly aligned:

  1. Tulip : The stem should be perfectly vertical.
  2. Frisbee : The frisbee should be perfectly horizontal, traveling left to right.
  3. Cut : The frisbee should slice through the stem 2cm below the head of the tulip.
  4. Moment of Impact : Show petals and fragments scattering.
  5. Background : Blurred to emphasize the action.
  6. No visible arms, hands, or people : Only the tulip and the frisbee.

If there is any additional detail or clarification you want to add before I proceed, please let me know. I want to ensure I fully understand your requirements before creating the image again.

I said

Don't show and petals and fragments scattering.

It produced another image to which I replied

that's nothing like what I wanted.

and it repeated its apology, told me what it was going to do and then pretended something had gone wrong. I've tried a couple more times since then. Still no satisfactory result.
