Stop Ball

Seen before:131 times

Prompt

Stop ball, stop! is often shouted to a golf ball as it rolls straight past the pin, which is in the center of the green, into deep rough behind the green. In this image it should be obvious that the ball has gone a long way past the pin. The person that's giving the instructions in vain is out of view.

Revised prompt

Visualize a vibrant golfing scene, where the drama unfolds at the green - a lush expanse dotted with challenging rough patches. In the center is the pin, standing as a beacon of hope and challenge. The main culprit, a golf ball, is seen obstinately rolling quite some distance away from the pin, heading towards the deep rough behind the green. Its trajectory is suggestive of a fast and wayward shot. The hopeless plea of 'Stop, ball, stop!' hangs in the air, originating from an unseen individual, whose frustration is palpable yet unseen in this bewitchingly beautiful yet cruel game of precision.

Notes

The featured image that I've chosen here was produced by my AI tool.

It's not what I wanted but I'd already given up hope when I asked it to have a go.

What follows is a record of a series of failures of communication between ChatGPT 4o and itself.

"stop ball, stop!" cried Nigel ( out of view ) as his golf ball bounded across the green into the rough behind.

"Stop ball, stop!" cried Nigel from out of view as his golf ball bounded across the green and into the rough beyond.

image please

Here's the image depicting Nigel's golf ball bounding across the green into the rough. If you need any adjustments or further details, feel free to let me know!

look, don't correct my grammar if that's the best image you can create for the prompt

I apologize if my response was not helpful. I'll ensure to focus on creating the best possible image from your exact prompt. Here's the revised version for generating the image:

"Stop ball, stop!" cried Nigel (out of view) as his golf ball bounded across the green into the rough behind.

Let's generate the image again with this exact prompt.

Now you're being silly

I apologize for any frustration. Let me try again to create an image based on your prompt:

"Stop ball, stop!" cried Nigel (out of view) as his golf ball bounded across the green into the rough behind.

I will focus on capturing this scene accurately.

Here is the updated image based on your exact prompt. If you have any more specifications or need further adjustments, please let me know!

try to make it look like the golf ball has gone way past the pin, that's where the hole is, and is rolling off the back of the green into the long rough grass behind.

Here's the updated image showing the golf ball rolling past the pin and off the back of the green into the long rough grass. If you need any further adjustments, please let me know!

oh don't be stupid

I apologize for any frustration caused. I'll make another attempt to create the image accurately according to your request.

Here’s the prompt I'll use to generate the image:

"A golf course green with a pin marking the hole. The golf ball has gone way past the pin and is rolling off the back of the green into the long rough grass behind. The scene includes a clear blue sky and lush, manicured grass on the green. Nigel, who is out of view, is shouting 'Stop ball, stop!' as the ball heads towards the rough."

I'll ensure the focus is on the ball going past the hole and into the rough.

Let's proceed with this.

I give up

I'm sorry for the frustration. I'll make one more effort to get this right. I appreciate your patience. Let's ensure the golf ball is clearly shown rolling far past the pin and heading off the green into the rough behind.

"A golf course green with a pin marking the hole. The golf ball has gone far past the pin and is rolling off the back of the green into the long rough grass behind. The scene includes a clear blue sky and lush, manicured grass on the green. Nigel, who is out of view, is shouting 'Stop ball, stop!' as the ball heads towards the rough."

I'll make sure this is the focus. Let's generate the image again.

Here's the new image with the golf ball rolling far past the pin and heading off the green into the rough. I hope this meets your expectations. If there are any other adjustments needed, please let me know.

you just don't get it do you?

I apologize for not meeting your expectations. Let me try to clarify and address your request accurately:

  1. Golf Course Green : Show the green with the pin and hole clearly visible.
  2. Golf Ball's Path : Depict the golf ball rolling far past the hole.
  3. Rough Grass : The ball should be clearly heading off the green into the rough grass behind.
  4. Nigel's Voice : Emphasize that Nigel is out of view but his exclamation ("Stop ball, stop!") should be implied.

I'll focus on these details to ensure the scene is accurate. Let's generate the image once more with these specific elements in mind.

I hope this new image better captures the scene you described, with the golf ball rolling far past the pin and heading into the rough grass behind. If there are any specific adjustments or additional details you'd like, please let me know.

look thicko. the ball is supposed to be nowhere near the hole.

I apologize for the misunderstanding. I'll make sure the golf ball is depicted clearly far away from the hole this time. Let’s focus on these points:

  1. Golf Course Green : Show the green with the pin and hole clearly visible.
  2. Golf Ball's Path : The ball is nowhere near the hole, having rolled far past it.
  3. Rough Grass : The ball is heading off the green into the rough grass behind.
  4. Nigel's Exclamation : Nigel is out of view, shouting "Stop ball, stop!"

I'll ensure the ball is clearly distant from the hole this time. Let's generate the image again.

Here is the updated image with the golf ball clearly far from the hole, heading off the green into the rough grass behind. I hope this aligns better with your vision. If there are any more details or adjustments needed, please let me know.

do you enjoy wasting my time?

I'm very sorry for the frustration and for not meeting your expectations. Let's try to get this right one last time.

Here’s what I’ll ensure in the image:

  1. Golf Course Green : Show the green with the pin and hole clearly visible.
  2. Golf Ball's Path : Make it very clear that the ball is far away from the hole and rolling off the green.
  3. Rough Grass : The ball is heading into the rough grass behind the green.
  4. Nigel’s Exclamation : Emphasize that Nigel is out of view, shouting "Stop ball, stop!"

I'll make sure to focus on these details accurately.

Here is the updated image showing the golf ball clearly far away from the hole, heading off the green into the rough grass behind. I hope this better meets your expectations. If you have any further instructions or need more adjustments, please let me know.

have a look at the image yourself and tell me what you see. It's not what I asked for!

I apologize for the misunderstanding. I see that the image may still not meet your expectations. Let me describe what I see and how it can be improved:

  1. Golf Course Green : Present, with the pin and hole visible.
  2. Golf Ball's Position : The ball may not clearly show it is far away from the hole and heading into the rough grass.
  3. Rough Grass : The ball's path into the rough might not be clear enough.

To improve:

  • Ensure the ball is visibly far past the hole, near the edge of the green.
  • Show the ball clearly rolling into the rough grass behind the green.
  • Highlight the distance between the ball and the hole.

Let's try generating this image again with these improvements.

I see that the previous attempts might not have met your requirements. In this image, the golf ball is meant to be far away from the hole, rolling off the green into the rough grass behind it.

Please let me know if there are specific details you'd like to adjust or add to ensure it matches your vision.

It was at this point I decided to try my AI tool. I then took the revised prompt, which I hadn't inspected closely and tried again.

Try this prompt instead

Absolutely, please provide the specific prompt you'd like me to use. I'll make sure to follow it exactly.

Here is the new image based on your detailed prompt. I hope this matches the scene you envisioned. If you have any further requests or adjustments, please let me know!

no it's just as bad as all the others

I apologize for not meeting your expectations. Let's break down the elements one more time to ensure I get everything right:

  1. Lush Green with Rough Patches : The green should have challenging rough patches around it.
  2. Pin in the Center : The pin should be prominently in the center.
  3. Golf Ball's Trajectory : The golf ball is far from the pin, rolling towards the deep rough behind the green.
  4. Sense of Motion : The ball should clearly show a fast and wayward shot.
  5. Unseen Nigel's Plea : "Stop, ball, stop!" is heard, indicating Nigel's frustration but he remains unseen.

I appreciate your patience. Let’s make sure these details are captured precisely. I’ll regenerate the image with these elements in mind.

It was at this point I realised that it was still trying to include Nigel's plaintive cry, even though I'd asked it to "try this prompt instead".

So off I toddled to Bing where I gave it the following prompt

Visualize a vibrant golfing scene, where the drama unfolds at the green. In the center is the pin, standing as a beacon of hope and challenge. In the distance, a golf ball, is seen obstinately rolling quite some distance away from the pin, heading towards the deep rough behind the green.

And here's what it came up with.

Not once did any of the image generators show the golf ball in the distance, behind the pin.

The question I now want the answer to is

"Which is more frustrating, AI or golf?"

The answer, it would appear, is they're both equally frustrating. Which is one reason you go back and have another go. It'll be easier the next time.

Turns out I was wrong. After tee I returned to the chat which had ended with

I understand your frustration, and I'm here to help. Let's review the image together to ensure it meets your expectations.

If there are specific elements still missing or incorrect, please let me know, and I'll address them directly. Your feedback is important to get this right.

One more try. I'm going to give you a completely new prompt. Ignore everything done so far. Before producing the image I want you to confirm what you're going to produce. Understand?

I understand. Please provide the new prompt, and I'll confirm the details with you before proceeding to produce the image.

Produce an image showing the green of a golf course with a flag in the hole in the centre of the green. Behind the green, away from the view point there is some "rough", which is longish grass. There is a golf ball that has already rolled past the pin and is obviously going to end up deeply embedded in the rough. No golfers, birds or animals of any kind are visible in the image.

Got it. Here’s what I understand from your new prompt:

  1. Green of a Golf Course : The main focus is on the green area of a golf course.
  2. Flag in the Hole : There is a flag in the hole, located in the center of the green.
  3. Rough Behind the Green : Behind the green, there is rough with longish grass.
  4. Golf Ball's Position : The golf ball has rolled past the pin and is heading towards the rough, where it will end up deeply embedded.
  5. No Visible Golfers, Birds, or Animals : The image should not include any golfers, birds, or animals.

Is this correct? If so, I'll proceed with generating the image based on these details.

yes

Here is the image based on your new prompt. The green of the golf course with a flag in the center, the rough behind the green, and the golf ball heading into the rough with no visible golfers, birds, or animals. Please let me know if this meets your expectations or if any adjustments are needed.

Oh my. You need to show that the golf ball has rolled WAY past the pin! It's a long way away, just entering the rough. try again

Here is the updated image, showing the golf ball that has rolled way past the pin and is just entering the rough, clearly far away from the pin. Please let me know if this meets your expectations or if further adjustments are needed.

No it does not!

I apologize for not getting it right. Let's ensure we address the details accurately this time.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of what needs to be included in the image:

  1. Green of a Golf Course : Focus on the green area.
  2. Flag in the Hole : The flag should be in the center of the green.
  3. Rough Behind the Green : Show rough with longish grass behind the green.
  4. Golf Ball's Position : The golf ball should be way past the pin, at the edge of the green, and entering the rough, clearly far away from the hole.
  5. No Visible Golfers, Birds, or Animals : The image should be free of any golfers, birds, or animals.

I'll proceed with this specific description.

Here is the updated image with the golf ball far past the pin, at the edge of the green, entering the rough. Please let me know if this meets your expectations or if further adjustments are needed.

My final reply was

you are quite useless! But I think you already know that.

PS. The last image reminds me of the time I got a hole in one in the wrong hole. It was a Furzeley, on the par 3 15th. Steve and I heard the ball land on the green but when we got there couldn't find it. Eventually we looked in the holes. Yes, Furzeley has two. One with the pin in, the other without a pin and no cover to prevent the ball falling in. I took it out of the hole and 2 putts later I got a par.

I'm going to use a couple of the other images for NTP's - Nearest The Pin markers - next weekend.
