In 1986 Fred Brooks wrote an essay entitled “No Silver Bullet – Essence and Accident in Software Engineering”, which inspired a favourite project – Silver Bullet. Fred passed away recently. To help me to celebrate his life, my ex boss sent me a small bottle of Silver Bullet gin. It’s a smaller bottle than the one that Chris directed me towards nearly two years ago. Even if the contents don’t survive beyond Christmas, I reckon the empty bottle will still be gathering dust on my straining bookshelves for many years to come.
